Supernatural gaming

As the game's title implies, you play as Luigi who must rescue Mario and friends throughout a creepy yet charming mansion and even a massive haunted hotel. You interact with plenty of ghosts and ultimately suck them up in the Poltergust vacuum to bring to Professor E.

Oxenfree is a spooky adventure game with a vibrant color palette where you and a group of friends find yourself on a seemingly abandoned island to party, unwind, and find some ghosts. Oxenfree might give off the vibes of just being a simple adventure game, however, it ends up providing some harrowing moments.

What makes Oxenfree so special, aside from the fantastic story and well-written characters, is that you interact with the "other side" via radio signals in the world.

It certainly makes for some tense encounters. One of the best and least discussed horror shooter games would have to be F. In this game you play as a group of soldiers who are tasked with taking down Alma Wade, a terrifying ghost girl that has an abundance of dark energy and power. This game feels like an amalgamation of a military-style shooter and The Ring. At one point you are in a hectic firefight in a warehouse but a few minutes later you might be running away from a supernatural entity.

If a more traditional first-person horror game with a strong narrative is what you are after then look no further than Layers of Fear. Layers of Fear is brimming with supernatural spooks. In this game you play as a delusion painter who seeks a way out of his madness through creating his magnum opus, a literal painting of flesh and blood. Layers of Fear is mostly a narrative-focused walking simulator adventure with very little in the way of actual gameplay. However, that simple description belies the fact that each new twist and turn in this game stems from a supernatural presence, or so you think.

Castlevania might be an obvious entry here due to its history with all things supernatural. However, it's Castlevania: Curse of Darkness from Playstation 2 and Xbox that truly stands out with these elements. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness is a 3d iteration of the series and while not revolutionary in terms of gameplay, it excelled in the visual and auditory areas.

Curse of Darkness takes vampires, ghosts, werewolves, and other supernatural beings and rolls them up into a fantastic package that feels like the epitome of Halloween night. I f you skipped this entry in the series, be sure to add it to your backlog.

Along the way you will have to contend with scary sounds, unnerving visual cues, and jump scares from Lisa who is quite literally always haunting you from behind. The Darkside Detective is a fantastic point-and-click adventure game where you must explore and investigate various haunted locations. More of a humorous game than an actual spooky game, The Darkside Detective blends traditional puzzles with strong character interactions. Each episode plays out like something ripped straight from X-Files but adds a more cartoony and silly approach to completing your objectives.

There is some dark subject material here but overall it's a more lighthearted supernatural affair. On the surface, Control , from Remedy Entertainment, might look like a generic, washed-out 3d action-adventure game with plenty of shooting elements. Supernatural is great for adding full-body cardio — and mindful meditation — to your down time, thanks to stunning VR workout environments and top-tier fitness coaches. Supernatural is a VR fitness app for Oculus Quest that promises to gamify your weekly exercise routine with an expansive library of cardio, boxing, meditation and recovery workouts.

Setting up Supernatural is a cinch. When you open up the app, Supernatural sets the pace for your VR experience right away by perching you on top of a beautiful mountaintop environment with floating menus. Part of the allure for such VR fitness apps is the ability to work out from the comfort of your own living room, while simultaneously simulating a personal training session somewhere else. We suspect the company name comes into play here somewhat, since the natural environments that Supernatural has created are downright superb.

Note: the larger your play area, the more expansive each environment feels. Similar to FitXR which only offers around classes thus far you can filter these classes by type, music genre, difficulty level, and duration.

In short, this app is intuitive as hell. All right, enough jibber-jabber. To put Supernatural and incidentally ourselves through the proper paces, Kim and I tried out a variety of Box, Flow, Meditate, and Recover classes. Here are our knee-jerk impressions:. Kim — Forget the punching bag and stop screaming into your pillow. If you want to release pent-up aggression in a more graceful manner, Supernatural's boxing modality is a highly recommended outlet. A vexatious argument was still fresh in my mind, so I harnessed that inner anger to smash the ever living daylights out of aerial artifacts and watched them satisfyingly explode upon impact.

Boy did that feel good! Better a VR workout app than their face, am I right? Some of the orbs point upward, prompting you to employ uppercuts. Others point to the side, inciting you to strike them with powerful hooks. There are also round orbs — sans directional indicators — that require straight-forward jabs. While I leveraged all that inner frustration to land powerful punches, I still ended up feeling a sense of peace while taking in Supernatural's breathtaking, degree locale.

Hovering over Peru's historical Machu Picchu site while jamming to Panic! At the Disco would relax anyone. In addition to those orbs, there are wayward batons that impel you to bob and weave as they fly at your face. After spending hours upon hours sitting in one place for work, my derriere is in desperate need of help. Throwing punches at floating orbs in the middle of nowhere is a surprisingly zen experience, by the way, and boxing workouts are inevitably a full-body affair.

After just five minutes or so, every single muscle group from the neck down was wide awake, and I could feel a fresh dopamine dump with each successful strike. Hands down or up , this was my favorite kind of class to play with throughout our testing.

Note: In the Settings menu, you can calibrate your Oculus Quest headset so that targets, triangles and dodges are properly aligned with your height.

I figured upbeat tunes would be the most motivating tracks, but I was wrong. As it turned out, Sweat Symphony is my favorite arm of the whole workout app, let alone Flow.
